The Department offers postgraduate and undergraduate courses. M.Sc. programme is offered in Materials, Physical, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry. The department has full-fledged  research laboratories and offers Ph.D. programmes in the above four specializations. So far seventy students have successfully completed their Ph.D.s from this department. Presently more than fifty students are pursuing their Ph.D. programme. More than 350 research papers in National and International journals have been published by various research  groups of the department. The department has developed research collaborations with Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi, Shri Ram Institute of Industrial Research, National physical Laboratory, Central Pollution Control Board, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Central Mining Research Institute, Dhanabad, Ranbaxy Laboratories etc.

Presently the department has three professors, four readers, and seven lecturers. In order to inculcate the academic culture the department  regularly organizes Educational Tours and Lecture/Quiz competitions. The department regularly organizes invited talks by eminent scientists from universities/research institutes within India and abroad.
